STADIUM BALUSTRADES - 2017
The Challenge
When building their brand-new stadium in Auckland, the client was struggling to find a frameless glass balustrading solution. New council regulations meant the balustrading had to be made of laminated glass, and the 25mm options on the market were proving too heavy for the stadium seating’s weight constraints. Hutec stepped in with the answer.
Our Solution
When the council introduced new regulations ruling out toughened glass, plan A for the project was already underway. So we worked quickly to formulate an even better plan B. We arranged over 700 metres of glass to be shipped in from overseas, and worked with our world-class glass industry connections to engineer the right process. All 700 metres were laminated first, then polished, to create a better, smoother, more even finish – then rigorously tested for compliance. The result was a 15mm thick laminated glass, which was light enough – and safe enough – for the job. Instead of stock-standard round handrails, the client wanted to go oval. We sourced oval stainless material, which called for custom-machined elbows. The team also engineered specialist brackets for the automated basketball hoops, tapered inserts for the netball hoops, and the stadium’s entire stage 2 structural steel work. The end product was just what the client wanted; top-notch engineering throughout – and slick, frameless glass balustrades, that gave the audience an uninterrupted view of the action.
TURBINE REFURB - 2016
The Challenge
This big agri-business client relied heavily on steam – not only to power their plant, but also to help make their fertiliser product. If their turbine was out of action, so was their business. So they relied on Hutec to carry out regular inspections and maintenance.
Our Solution
Our team performed a full turbine inspection – taking off the top outer casing, removing the rota, checking the diaphragms, doing a deep clean, and making necessary replacements. We also pulled the generator out through the roof of the facility, and coordinated an off-site overhaul. Hutec made the client’s life easy by taking care of the inspection, then performing repairs on-the-spot. We had the in-house expertise needed to plan, create methodologies, and engineer a solution, right then and there. Our problem-solving approach saved the client having to replace machinery outright, which saved them spending on new parts. The clients were so happy with our end-to-end process, they chose to trust Hutec with a majority of the maintenance throughout their business and gave the audience an uninterrupted view of the action.
